chaotic circus
Chaotic Circus is a series of three installations.
The installations consist of both mechanical and natural events linked together in a causal chain. The physical methods used in the work rely on chaos, but at the same time they were reasonably grounded in basic science classroom experiment. The composition of mechanism (which is constructed by conveyer belt, computer fan, air compressor, and timer, and so on) and invisible forces (such as the gravity, sounds, air circulation and pressure) cooperate to decide the course of event. It means I try to control the materials in my own ways but also the work is partly out of control. This environment dictates the random effect making each piece and each experiment unique and unpredictable, as is life.
Using invisible forces, the visible part of the work was transformed and gained a eliving statefand it became a reflection of life. Our life is made up of invisible and tangible experiences. We understand who we are by connecting these experiences. The performance that materials are creating may illustrate the elements of chance, cooperation, hope, violence, exhaustion, and despair and so on. This process could imply a sense of progress or conflict. It shows the ambiguity between seemingly opposing elements (for example, work and play, order and chaos, mundane and sublime, etcc) and the moment of transformation between them.
My work is a metaphor with multiple layers. At one layer, it may represent our culture, society and interchange of ideas, at another layer; it may imply life and death of the individuals. I hope that the stylised aesthetic of my work makes it more accessible to the viewer and allows the workfs metaphor to expand in their imagination.
